Virtual desktop on low resource/old computers

Because the processing of VESK is done at the data centre and not on the local PC, you can use VESK on older and slower computers. As a result the user will experience improved processing and work speeds compared with their older/slower PC.

We ran a test in our office with a PC running 256MB of RAM, pretty much the average spec of a PC purchased 5 years ago.  We ran local Microsoft Office applications and as expected, it was very slow.  We downloaded the VESK client plug-in, which admittedly took about 10 minutes to install, fortunately this is a one time only requirement.  The impressive thing was the speed once connected to VESK, although the processing speed and memory was low on the computer, when VESK was running, the end user experience was perfect.  Very quick reactions, no lag and not latency at all.  VESK delivered feature rich applications, for example we opened a 15MB PDF and a large presentation with no delay at all and then printed the documents, all completed immediately.

So, what is the reason for this ?  The only data transferred upstream from your computer to the datacentre is mouse movements, mouse clicks and key strokes.  The only data transferred back to your PC is an image of VESK, therefore very little bandwidth is required.

The same holds true for thin clients.  When we bench testes the iGel thin clients in our office, just moving around the local desktop features was fairly slow.  But as soon as logged into VESK the reactions are immediate because the processing power requirement is shifted from the computer to the datacentre.
