Raising awareness of virtual desktops is the key to improving businesses

A consortium of U.S. desktop virtualization firms have announced a formal partnership that will be dedicated to raising awareness of the benefits of using a virtual desktop solution in your company.

Virtual desktops have created a paradigm shift in the office based IT market and have revolutionised the way in which businesses use computers and the internet. Yet there are still companies that are unfamiliar with the technology and that could use it to reduce their storage and operational costs by 90%.

If businesses are made aware of this fact then they may realise that virtual desktops are a viable option for their company.

Ira Silverman, CEO of Gotham Technology Group, said, “The market for virtual desktops is growing exponentially. Last year, our customers tested the water with internal and tactical deployments. This year, our clients are engaging in much broader deployments to a greater user base.”

This is perhaps because the cost is more affordable than when the technology first emerged and that the possibilites that using virtual desktops create is almost limitless.

Mr Silverman added that initially start up costs made the technology seem too expensive so sales were slow but now the technology is more versatile and can be offered at a much more affordable price.

Yet the benefits of the technology still need to be realised by companies otherwise they will not upgrade to the superior technology. Commenting on this issue Brian Feller, VP of a virtual desktop sales and operations company, said, “Educating the market is a key element in this space.”

So it seems that if companies are unfamiliar with virtual desktop solutions then the technology cannot make an impact on their business. A problem that the consortium is trying to counter.
