Internal Datacentre Resilience
Internally within each server rack in our datacentres we operate n+2 redundancy across our servers. That means a server, or even two servers can fail at any one point in time and new servers are waiting to takeover the faulty servers.
Within our storage we also run n+2. That means any storage unit (SAN) can fail and we have immediate failover to another SAN, in fact you wouldn’t even notice a failure if working on a document.
All networking equipment is mirrored, not only on a per-switch basis, but across multiple network switches. Our firewalls are mirrored resulting in immediate failover in the event of any part of our network failing.
We have multiple honed Internet connectivity into each datacentre from different providers.
We have dual feed electricity from the National Grid in addition to a third party power supplier. Furthermore we have petrol and diesel generators and operate the only n+2 power datacentre facility in the UK.
We do not have any single points of failure internally within our datacentres.
Collective datacentre resilience
Your data on VESK is not only backed up offsite, it’s synchronised in real-time between datacentres. Every ‘bit’ of data held in datacentre 1 is replicated across multiple datacentres, in real time.
Fast multiple 1gbps connections interconnect our datacentres using a secured and uncontended pathway. In the event of a complete datacentre failure, a backup datacentre will be initiated.
Disaster recovery
VESK offer as standard, full Disaster Recovery between datacentres. This involves real-time bidirectional synchronisation of all VESK data across multiple datacentres with error checking at both ends. All data in transit is encapsulated, encrypted and decrypted for security purposes.
Not only do we synchronise your data in real time, we also snapshot your data every hour. That means we can recover emails, files and even database applications back to any ‘hourly’ point in time.
Compliance
All VESK datacentres are ISO27001 certified, please ask a member of the technical team for our certificates.
VESK are compliant with ISO27001 and ISO9001 for data integrity and data security. We are part of the DPA; VESK Data Protection Act number: Z194376X.
100% carbon neutral
On March 23rd 2012 VESK became the UK’s first hosted desktop provider to take a crucial step to make our operations more environmentally friendly. On behalf of all clients, VESK is voluntarily offsetting all the CO2 emissions caused by our primary datacentre. Overall, this equates to a 30% increase in our overall datacentre costs, but a highly strategic move in increasing our overall business efficiency.

James Mackie, our Technical Director at our primary datacentre facility in the US. Behind James you can see the NOC, Network Operations Centre where all of VESK’s US infrastructure is monitored. |
Unlike many other datacentre’s, VESK’s server cabinets have their own fire suppression units. If there’s a fire only one cabinet is affected, rather than an entire area. |

Each of our cabinets has its own power supplied from multiple sources. Unlike many other datacentre’s we can supply over 100Amps to each cabinet for maximum compute requirements. |
Each row in our primary datacentre has its own internal cooling through sealed cabinets. Each cabinet circulates the cool air from top to bottom, so unlike other datacentre’s, ours is completely silent! |
